Ceramic Tile Making and Surface Design
Students will roll out slabs of clay and use tile cutters to create 4”x 4” tiles. The tile will be used as a canvas to learn several surface design techniques: sgraffito, paper stencil resist, texture, slip trailing and mishima. Each technique can be used on its own or can be combined to create intricate unique surfaces. Each technique requires several specific tools. The instructor will provide a variety of tools for class use. Student tiles will be dried and bisque fired. On Wednesday July 31, students will return and glaze each tile with a clear ceramic glaze. Instructor will glaze fire tiles, completed tiles will be available to pick up on the following Saturday.
