Hello from ArtWaves and the Bar Harbor Historical Society,

We are writing to invite you to apply to participate in an exciting collaboration between our organizations and plein air painters. In the mid 1800’s many Hudson River School painters migrated north to capture the essence of the rugged coastline of Maine. They were famously followed by “Rusticators” (early glampers) who on seeing these paintings were compelled to experience the landscape so viscerally captured by the artists.

We are hosting a week of painting on MDI, including the grounds of the Bar Harbor Historical Society’s campus “La Rochelle” located on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean in Bar Harbor. Artists will have dawn to dusk access to the grounds at La Rochelle, including comfort stations and entrance to the museum during open hours, during the week of August 3-10th. On Friday August 11th there will be a ticketed event and sale of works completed during this week. The sale will continue open to the public and online on Saturday August 12th. Each artist may submit 3-5 pieces for sale and the proceeds of all sales will be split 50% to the artist and 25% each to ArtWaves and The Bar Harbor Historical Society. Artists will also receive 2 tickets to the Friday evening event.

Additional information can be found on the form for consideration. Here is the link to apply: Hudson to Harbor Google Form. Or use the form below. Questions not answered on the form can be emailed to office@artwavesmdi.org

We hope you will consider joining us and supporting our efforts to bring history and art to life for our residents and visitors. Looking forward to seeing your work!
