Are you looking to improve your creative development with constructive feedback?

Join ArtSpeak with Kaitlyn Metcalf: our Visual Arts Critique Group. All mediums and experience levels are welcome. You just have to be open to new ideas and productive feedback.

Bring whatever you are working on and, as a group, we will offer insight on how we, as viewers, are experiencing the piece and offer thoughts on how to further your creative expression. Technique and idea exchange are essential aspects of critique, so come ready to share!

The group will meet via Zoom until we are able to meet in person at ArtWaves.

You will receive a Zoom link once you’ve booked this service.

Kaitlyn Metcalf is a painter and adventurer living on the coast of Maine.

Join Us for a Community Fire in Clay

ArtWaves has received a grant from the Maine Arts and Humanities Commission to raise public awareness of the effects of domestic abuse on MDI.  This is as a follow up to sponsoring the Finding Our Voices 2020 summer banner exhibit.

We are calling out to the community to respond in clay.  Clay (at no cost to you) can be picked up at ArtWaves beginning on August 1st to self identified artists 16 and older who register for this project.

Create a piece at ArtWaves or at your home that speaks to the issue, then return the pieces to be fired in an outdoor communal firing on September 12th.

A public exhibit at the ArtWaves campus opens on September 18th to see and honor each other's work, then will be on display at the Northeast Harbor Library for the month of November.

Engaging the mind, heart and body, this project is an opportunity to raise awareness by responding in a visual manner to domestic abuse with clay.

Punch needle embroidery is a needle art by punching a needle through a piece of woven fabric, the weave of the fabric holds the yarn to form loops. The stitches are known as the front side and the loops on the back as the backside. This is a creative embroidery technique beginners and experienced fiber artists love to do. It's easy to get started! You can make all sorts of projects, including wall hangings, pillows, and rugs and more. It’s like painting or drawing with yarn!

I encourage you to take inspiration from artists you love, music, movies, the possibilities are endless. In this workshop I will also be teaching you how to finish the pieces for a professional look that you wont believe you made yourself.
